Alps. 1880.

Nobody finished. Everybody remembers.

Vera Nox

A race of machines the like of which had never been seen. She beat them all on a single wheel — and no one even noticed her slip past.

September 14, 1880. The Alps.

What if the bicycle had been given the half-century history denied it — time to take root before steam arrived? By then the question was no longer idle: steam was beginning to win the public imagination. Prince Wilhelm von Thalberg settled it his own way — he sent the best into the Alpine passes, and promised the winning machine the coming century.

This race is in no chronicle. It was meant to stay that way.

This is what they rode through.
